Opencart Solution For Furniture Company

Redian Software has completed an OpenCart solution for a furniture company. The engagement covered the full e-commerce stack — catalogue, pricing, checkout and data migration — for a manufacturer whose product structure did not fit a stock OpenCart deployment out of the box.

Client Background

The client is a leading manufacturer of home furnishing material including sofas, ottomans, chairs, leather sectionals, home theatre seating and related categories. Their catalogue mixes individual SKUs with grouped sets, and the buyer experience needed to support both without forcing customers through separate flows.

Client Requirements

The client offers grouped items alongside single product items, and grouped products are built from the same underlying single SKUs. Each grouped product can carry its own swatch colours, leather grades, set configurations, prices and portfolio imagery. The brief was to build an automated system where product items, prices, swatches, grades and sets could be managed by admin and staff, and where a grouped product could be purchased through a single order.

The Challenges

Three problems sat at the heart of the engagement:

• Migrating the existing Zen Cart product database into OpenCart without breaking SKUs or imagery.
• Building an automated system where admin and staff could manage grouped products and singles without operational friction.
• Delivering a smooth checkout for grouped purchases, which OpenCart's stock checkout did not handle elegantly.

The Solutions

The client chose to build on OpenCart. Our development team analysed every aspect of the requirement and started by customising existing OpenCart modules and writing new ones where the platform did not have an answer. The complete inventory layer was customised to match the client's catalogue model.

We wrote a custom migration routine to move products, categories and images from Zen Cart into OpenCart, automatically transforming them into the format the new platform expected. The checkout itself was rebuilt so that a group of products could be purchased as a single product — keeping the experience simple for buyers while preserving the data model behind the scenes.
